I think what is happening here is that Dr. Cameron is afraid of race amalgamation. As the Klan leader, I believe he knows that they will hold him accountable. I believe he intends to hurt her first so that he can show that he disciplined her so there was no need for them to. The irony in him being the founder and his daughter doing such things would be beyond embarrassing to him. I can see the audience receiving second hand humiliation/embarrassment for him.
I think this is Griffith’s way of taking on John Tyler Adams point of view as far as divinity goes. Not only is it law to be this way, this is what was meant to be in the heavens as well. This is natural and the way God wants it to be.
