John Tyler Adams, a confederate brigademan with status was allowed to become a senator after the war even though he was technically a traitor. This goes to show how truly fortunate this man was but also you are able to see how race is able to enter the legal system. His story is that again of a white supremacist. He talks about how African Americans were the weakest link because at least the Indians had the courage to kill themselves and that white people would never be enslaved or subject themselves to such savagery. He justified certain elements by saying Africans are the only people to keep their people enslaved and so they are justified. He talks with a certain divinity as if this is how God meant for things to be.
