The first thing I thought when seeing this segment was in regards to its age. It seemed to be rather old and because it was a movie without true audio and words are added, I believe it to be directed towards an audience of educated white people. The audience would have to be literate in the sense of reading and writing as well as able to read contextual clues and well versed in those times events. Nothing in particular stood out to me about that time comparable to the essays we’ve been reading, however I did take note of the treatment of the slaves in the film. Rather it be highlighting them spanking their children or doing party tricks to impress a woman, savagery was certainly what was intended to be depicted. For this reason, I believe the audience would have to be among a community of discourse that could relate to the riches of having slave and who would be in strong support of the confederate.
